userdb in postgresql?

Postby Burn » Wed Jan 20, 2010 4:51 pm

I've searched all over, but it seems the only option for UserDB is mysql. Is that right? Actually, when first saw Phplogcon, I was hoping for ldap role-based authentication and authorization, but highly disappointed by its unavailability. Not only that, but it turns out administration is not available at all unless UserDB is used. Is there any way I could use at least Postgresql for userdb? I don't want to add yet another mysql server just to keep users there.

Hi,

unfortunately the UserDB depends on MYSQL. However there have been Ideas to use the Apache for LDAP or other authentications, and use the authenticated http user in the UserDB System of phpLogCon.
However phpLogCon would still depend on MYSQL.

Is there any chance that we could remove this restriction over time? Or is it simply a massive amount of work?

I wouldn't say massive work, but a good amount of work, and lot's of additional testing for unknown side-effects.

I'd say we should put it up on the todo list (with medium priority) ... and also hope that a sponsor shows up ;)

Hi guys,

thanks for your great tools. Appreciate your work!

I'm running rsyslog and loganalyzer on postgresql, too. So I'm interested in running user database on postgres too.

Push

Hi guys,

indeed awesome tool.

I also use rsyslog with postgres and Loganalyzer. So I would be happy if postgres supoort could be added.

Is the userdb still only available in mysql only?

if yes, could the coming version add some hints or warning in userdb setup page. I spent some time and try to setup userdb by postgres, since I can't find anything saying userdb is mysql only.

Adding a warning makes sense, we will do so.
The UserDB is still only available for Mysql, there has no sponsor being found yet to add support for other db engines.
