An upgrade feature vs complete install

Postby wendtmk » Thu Sep 03, 2009 1:19 pm

just wondering, if in future versions, you all are contemplating an upgrade path versus a brand new, complete install. We're using the UserDB with our install, and the couple of times I've put in a new version, it completely blows away the current UserDB, with all my nice Views, Users, and groups. An upgrade path which would allow us to selectively save the parts of the UserDB that we've built while changing it for new fields that the newer versions would use would save a lot of time by not having to rebuild all that was done before.

to me, this sounds like a bug. There is an upgrade wizard which should (should! ;)) upgrade an existing installation. Probably a good idea to file in bugzialla...

An upgrade plan is also already implemented.
So there is no need for rebuild or anything like that.

Updating works like this:
- Copy the new files over your existing installation.
- Login into phpLogCon and access the admin panel, you will be prompted for a DB Update if needed automatically.
