Hi try disabling the 802.1x authentication on your wireless network card
If 802.1x authentication is enabled on your wireless network card and your
access point doesn't support this authentication the connection will be
disconnected after a few minutes.

To disable 802.1x authenication over your wireless network card...

1.. Click Start, point to Connect To, click Show all connections, and then
double-click your wireless network adapter.
2.. On the General tab, click Properties.
3.. Click the Wireless Networks tab.
4.. Under Preferred Networks, click your home network, and then click
5.. Click Data encryption (WEP enabled).
6.. Click the Association tab, and then click to clear the Network
Authentication (Shared mode) check box and the The key is provided for me
automatically check box, if they are selected.
7.. Click the Authentication tab, and then click to clear the Enable IEEE
802.1x authentication for this network check box, if it is selected.
8.. Click OK two times to accept the changes.

did you have a look at and installed the hotfix?

wireless issue

Postby acer2081 » Wed Dec 15, 2004 3:27 am

I took a look at the kb article, but thats only for windows 2000, whereas I have windows xp sp2. Moreover this service is disabled on my machine.

In order to isolate this issue, I disabled all startup services (excluding microsoft services) and manually started only those that were required to get connected. That took care of it. When I started the antivirus service(network associates), this issue started reappearing but with a lower frequency, so i'm thinking it may be due to the antivirus. i informed microsoft and will let you know incase they have further suggestions.

Got the same problem after i installed a USB-2.0 card. It dasappeared after I removed the card. Still looking for a solution

same problem here on a thinkpad

Postby myke » Sat Apr 02, 2005 9:53 am

I have SP2, i am not using authentication, i have tried turning authentication on b/c i know that the AP supports it. The AP is a Cisco Aironet 1200 series and I have an Intel Centrino setup in a Thinkpad T42.
I'm not sure if this helps but I do not have to manually reconnect, I am connected again automatically.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AHA! The solution that worked for me is fairly simple, but it WORKED.

From Control Panel, hit Network Connections, select your wireless connection, and Properties. On the General tab, un-check the box for "QoS Network Settings."

Evidently, with some router/adapter combinations, this setting causes a problem (especially with XP/SP2) when the Quality of Service adapter goes checking for network speeds, and the router doesn't return the information. My problem arose when I changed to a Belkin pre-N router, even though I had to continue using my old Netgear 802.11b adapter card (the Belkin card is not compatible with all systems, including mine).
