Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'

Postby itsupport@tcloud.com » Fri Jan 21, 2005 6:22 pm

Hello,

I am getting the following error:

Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'

Server.CreateObject Failed

/support/s_submit_download.asp, line 37

800401f3

I have already run "regsvr32 simplemail.dll" from "C:\Program Files\SimpleMail\"

Also, I have set up the vbscript test and am able to send the test message.

I even placed IUSR_HOSTNAME in the local Administrators group with no effect. I have since removed that user from the local Administrators group.

Where else is there to look for a resolution to this?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi,

could you quote first lines of your asp script, where you create the SimpleMail object.

best regards,

Sorry to have forgotten that bit.

++++begin code++++
// create simplemail message

var e = Server.CreateObject("ADISCON.SimpleMail.1");
e.mailServer = "mail.server.com"
e.Sender = "downloads@server.com";
e.Subject = "Support Portal Product Download";
e.Recipient = "support@server.com";

// append text to message

e.MessageText ="Product was downloaded by: "+vName;
e.MessageText +="\n";
e.MessageText +="\n";
e.MessageText += "Product: "+vProduct;
e.MessageText +="\n";
e.MessageText +="\n";
e.MessageText += "File: "+vURL;
e.MessageText +="\n";
e.MessageText +="\n";

e.Send();

if (e.LastStatus != 221) {
Response.Redirect(vURL);
} else {
Response.Redirect(vURL);
}
++++end code+++++

Hope that helps

So you are using Javascript with ASP, but it should work.
Anyway this is the first I hear about this error code together with SimpleMail. Can you also tell me some more details about Windows Version, IIS Version and so on ;)

I also found some help from another product which is similar to SimpleMail, please try this as well:

This error means "Invalid class string" -- in other words the call to CreateObject failed because the name object cannot be found by the OLE sub-system. Causes include:

You really didn't run regsvr32 on the server after all.
You ran regsvr32 but it reported an error.
Someone modified security on part of the registry that's preventing the OLE subsystem from reading all or part of the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT tree.
The name of the object you are trying to create was mispelled or is incorrect.
Determine if it's a permissions problem

Add the anonymous user (used by IIS) to the Administrators group. The test page then worked, proving it was a permissions problem. Do not forget to remove the anonymous IIS user from the Admin group!
Determine if it is a file permissions problem:

After removing the Anonymous user from the Admin group, add failure auditing to the file (simplemail.dll), which will determine if the file was ever accessed (by the lack of the failure event). If it isn't, this makes it clear that the failure is prior to file access but go ahead and check file/directory permissions to make sure the anonymous IIS user can access the file.
Check registry permissions

Using Regedt32, do find on simplemail.dll. Check the permissions for the key (and sub keys), and make sure that the anonymous user has read rights. Do a find on the class-id, which contains the location value, and version, and check those permissions as well.

hope this helps - regards,

'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'

hi ,

Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'

Server.CreateObject Failed

This error is very common. And you have to register the scrunn.dll file on server.
But what if you're taking the service of a free web hosting service for your website, which supports ASP scripting but doesn not allow you to create objects.
do you know of any free web hosting sites supporting ASP and allow you to create objects?
