Re: Problem with make rsyslog-8.8.0 on SLES 11

Postby dlang » Mon May 04, 2015 6:18 pm

since you are compiling this from scratch, could you switch to 8.9 (or the git master 8.10) and try again?

you may also need to do autoreconf -fvi before doing the configure step

Re: Problem with make rsyslog-8.8.0 on SLES 11

why are you disabling liblogging-stdlog? That supports traditional syslog logging. I wouldn't be surprised if that was triggering the problem.

Yeah, disabling liblogging-stdlog is a bad idea, it cuts of some reporting feature. But it shouldn't be the problem here. It looks like configure does not properly detect some OS features missing on the distro. But I need to install SLES to see the problem myself. Maybe it would be a good idea to create an issue tracker at rsyslog's github presence.

I had a quick look at the code. It looks like recvmmsg() is not available, albeit configure detects it

checking for recvmmsg... yes

maybe SLES needs an additional/different header file than the other distros.

Can you post the result of

$ man recvmmsg

from the machine you are building on. I can then see if it says anything different than the other platforms.

Hi Rainer,
/tmp/rsyslog-8.9.0 # man recvmmsg
No manual entry for recvmmsg

about the disabling liblogging-stdlog
I disabled it because I've to install / upgrade alot more Packages to use it.

I normaly use the default rsyslog Deamon which comes with SLES 11 ->
/sbin/rsyslogd -v
rsyslogd 5.10.1, compiled with:
FEATURE_REGEXP: Yes
FEATURE_LARGEFILE: No
GSSAPI Kerberos 5 support: Yes
FEATURE_DEBUG (debug build, slow code): No
32bit Atomic operations supported: Yes
64bit Atomic operations supported: Yes
Runtime Instrumentation (slow code): No
I write all the Messages to an Oracle DB. Now I've to install the DB on AIX but keep the SLES Server for rsyslog
I thought it would be good to take a new Version when I touch it anyway. But it seems to be a lot of work :-)

Hi all,

I want to reproduce your case. So I want to install rsyslog 8.9.0 under SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 but I can't get some of the needed packages. One example is zlib-devel and I can not believe that this package is missing. Do you had the same problem or do you build the missing packages from source? If you don't had this problem where and how did you find the packages?

Below you can find the complete list of the missing packages:
libcurl-devel
valgrind
python-docutils
uuid-devel
libgcrypt-devel
libgnutls-devel
libmysqlclient-devel
libdbi-devel
postgresql-devel
net-snmp-devel
libdbi-drivers-dbd-mysql
json-c
zlib-dev
libdbi

Thanks for the help in advance,
