./configure --prefix=/usr configure: error: in

Postby jamesinterpass » Tue Apr 21, 2015 6:06 am

I am trying to install for the first time by following your newbie guide.

When I execute the command:

./configure --prefix=/usr

I see lines of commands checking...

Then I get a line:

configure: error: `/misc/rsyslog-7.6.1':
configure: error: The pkg-config script could not be found or is too old. Make sure it is in your PATH or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable to the full path to pkg-config.

I am confused by this, please explain...

Hi James,

So this error means that you need to install the package of pkg-config or you have to install a newer version of it! You can simply do this with the following command! (Please note that this command is an example for Ubuntu)
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pkg-config && sudo apt-get install build-essential

There might be more errors because of some missing packages! You have to install them to proceed.

Please let me know if this helps!

Thanks Tim,

Here is what I encountered:

root@ubuntu1404:/# apt-get install pkgconfig
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package pkgconfig
root@ubuntu1404:/#

I did do an update first and even tried installing build-essentials first.

Not sure what is going on here.
