winsyslog service needs restart after Windows reboot

Postby ricpf » Mon Dec 15, 2014 4:58 pm

We're using winrsyslog on Windows 2008 64-bit to simply read a log file and export syslog to a central rsyslog (linux rsyslog).

It works fine, except that after a server restart, the agent simply won't return to work properly. The service appears as "running" on windows services, there is no significant log on event log, but the syslog messages simply are not spit out. A simple service restart seems to solve the problem.

Does anybody have seen this beahaviour? Haven't tried changing the user which is running (system), either placing the service as "delayed start", because it's a production enviromnment and there is no development environment (sad), so we need to do that during a programmed maintenance window.

Thanks for any suggestions of which we could try,

Best Regards from Brazil!

My guess is that you are referring to RSyslog Windows Agent rather then WinSyslog.
Can you enable debug output to full, don't restart the Agent yet. Wait for the next reboot, a new debugfile will be created then.
Please send the debugfile along with a reference to this forum post to, we will help you then.
