Disable "More Information" on Messages

Postby joelserrano » Thu Jun 25, 2009 4:05 pm

Hi everyone,

I just finished installing rsyslogd with mysql & phplogcon.

Everything works just fine...

My doubt: when ever an IP address appears on the log message, a question mark appears right next to it with a "More Information" caption that sends you to the "Ask the Oracle" page...

Example clicking on an IP address: "You asked the oracle to find more information about the 'ip' value '192.168.1.100'."

Is it possible to disable this?

Thanks in advanced,

Joel.

Hi Joel,

I am sorry, but currently this feature can not be disabled in phpLogCon.

Ok!!

There isn't really nothing wrong with it, just wondering though...

Thanks anyway...

Joel.

Hi,

I just deployed LogAnalyzer at work and my boss is hating that "more information" button stuff as it makes our long messages unreadable...
Can somebody post references to where It is in the code so I can disable it?

An option for it would be nice but I'd be ok with just a php hack for now.

Thanks in advance,
Stephane

Lets call them Context-Links, I am going to add an option for disabling them in the next minor update.
If you can't wait till then, edit include/functions_common.php and search for this code:
Code: Select all
function AddContextLinks(&$sourceTxt)
{
   global $szTLDDomains;

replace with this:
Code: Select all
function AddContextLinks(&$sourceTxt)
{
   global $szTLDDomains;
return;

what a coincidence, I was just about to start searching the code myself and decided to check the forum and noticed your post...
Thanks for the fast reply.

I manually patched the code and it works.

it's not that's it's not a useful feature but the highlighting is sometimes fooled by some our message contents and makes it hard to read.

I'm looking forward to the next minor update.

thanks again,
Stephane

ps: I found an unrelated bug... Should I just post my "fix" in the forum?

I don't know what Andre prefers, but I am a big fan of the bug tracker at bugzilla.adiscon.com -- at least for me, it helps me keep track of what is open. But as I said, I don't speak for Andre ;)

ah. thanks. I didn't know there was a bugzilla.

btw, thanks for your excellent work rsyslog. I just recently migrated all my companies RHEL hosts to it and I'm loving the extra flexibility...
I don't know what we were doing without it before... (mind you we didn't have any centralized syslogging either!)

Keep up the excellent work,
Stephane

Hi,

please see LogAnalyzer 3.2.1, it contains a new option in Admin Center to disable Context Links:
http://loganalyzer.adiscon.com/download ... -v3-stable

best regards,
Andre Lorbach

PS: Good point I will consider using bugzilla in future, I just need to get used to it ;)

I'm not sure if it's me but although the two bugs in question are now fixed the IPs are no longer being resolved properly.
I tried toggling the option just in case to no avail.

Anybody can confirm my in/sanity? :)

edit: Unless there's more to updating than just untarring the 3.2.1 tarball and copying over the old config.php? Anything required to update the DB?

Thanks,
Stephane

Ok. I looked at the code and it seems the solution is obvious now.
The fix for the context links issue doesn't take into consideration that the user might still want to have IPs resolved which is also done in this function...
two options:
1- split them off in two seperate functions
2- just jump over the affected code.

Here's my temporary hack:
(I moved your conditional return block after the IP resolving condition block..

Code: Select all
/*
*       AddContextLinks
*/
function AddContextLinks(&$sourceTxt)
{
        global $szTLDDomains;

        // Return if not enabled!
        if ( GetConfigSetting("EnableIPAddressResolve", 0, CFGLEVEL_USER) == 1 )
        {
                // Search for IP's and Add Reverse Lookup first!
                $sourceTxt = preg_replace( '/([^\[])\b(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\b/ie', "'\\1\\2.\\3.\\4.\\5' . ReverseResolveIP('\\2.\\3.\\4.\\5', '<font class=\"highlighted\"> {', '} </font>')", $sourceTxt );
        }

        // check if user disabled Context Links.
        if ( GetConfigSetting("EnableContextLinks", 1, CFGLEVEL_USER) == 0 )
                return;

        // Create if not set!
        if ( !isset($szTLDDomains) )
                CreateTopLevelDomainSearch();

        // Create Search Array
        $search = array
                                (
                                        '/\.([\w\d\_\-]+)\.(' . $szTLDDomains . ')([^a-zA-Z0-9\.])/ie',
/* (?:127)| */          '/(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)/ie',
                                );

        // Create Replace Array
        $replace = array
                                (
                                        "'.' . InsertLookupLink(\"\", \"\\1.\\2\", \"\", \"\\3\")",
                                        "InsertLookupLink(\"\\1.\\2.\\3.\\4\", \"\", \"\", \"\")",
                                );

        // Replace and return!
        $sourceTxt = preg_replace( $search, $replace, $sourceTxt );

//echo $outTxt . " <br>" ;
//return $outTxt;
}

Don't you love when somebody answers his own questions? :)

looking forward to hearing your suggestions...
