Install on virtual server?

Postby dayvid » Thu Feb 07, 2013 4:17 pm

I'm fighting finding an old server to use to test out loganalyzer, but can't find one with enough disk space. Which I actually don't know what's the basic requirements. Can it be installed on a virtual server and work well?

Loganalyzer itself does not need much space, about 5 MB on disk. I guess even virtual servers can spare a few MB's for that.
What needs space are the logfiles.

Thanks alorbach. I figured it was the log files, but they'd be on the server as well no? Anyways I can make a virtual server rather large. But what about being on a virtual server, will that affect performance, or is it fine?

Logfiles are usually rotated daily, and deleted after one or two weeks. So there should be no performance problem to be expected unless you have a huge logvolume.

Virtual as in say VMware ESXi will be fine. Though it depends on things like how much CPU and ram you give it. 1cpu and 2gb to start and see how it goes.
