Export configuration issues with spaces and backslashes

Postby rjcuk » Wed Oct 21, 2015 11:54 am

Hello,

I think I have found a couple of bugs when exporting the configuration. I am exporting/importing the configuration as Adiscon Config Format - the issues may affect the other formats as well but I have not tested them.
I am using Rsyslog Windows Agent Configuration Client 3.1.0.213 on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Issue 1
Create a 'Forward Syslog' event
Choose the option for a Custom Syslog Header
Enter some text
Add a space at the end (which might be common depending on your format)
Save and export the configuration and import it again
The space has been truncated off

Workaround to Issue 1 is to make a custom Message Format and add a space to the beginning of it, which doesn't get truncated. If there is no space on either the end of the header or the start of the message, then they are both combined together without a space.

Issue 2
Create a filter 'eval' for the Property %user%
Set the compare operation to contains
Set the property value to 'N\A' without quotes
Save and export the configuration, and import the same file again
The N\A that was there has been 'escaped' with an an extra backslash
If you repeat the export and import the same file again, it will keep adding more backslashes.

Workaround for Issue 2 is manually edit the XML and remove the extra backslashes every time you import and then export the configuration. Using a different format may prevent the issue.

I can confirm that it is only the Adiscon Config Format which has the issues with the backslashes and the spaces. The registry textfile imports/exports are unaffected for both.

This seems to be a client issue, I will look into this - thanks for the report.

It was indeed a bug in the client, has been fixed in the current beta version:
rsyslog-windows-agent-build-140-beta-2015-t12692.html
