WINS: NT4 Migration to WIN2003

Postby BJ on Fri Jun 20, 2003 4:03 pm

I'm migrating my WINS service from my NT4 server to my
Win2003 server. Transfer of database was a success,
however, when I look at the WINS management screen in
Win2003 I see the WINS server name but I see the server's
external IP address (216.x.x.x) instead of its internal IP
address: 10.x.x.x (there are 2 NICs in this server). On
the WinNT box the WINS management screen shows the
internal IP address of the server. Now when I test the
WINS service running on the Win2003 box, using an internal
client, it doesn't seem to be working (there is no name
resolution occuring). The client is set up to use the WINS
server's internal IP address. My guess is that the WINS
service is associated with the Win2003 server's external
IP address (which the internal network cannot see) instead
of internal. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Hello,

According to the symptoms, it seems that Network Adapters binding order is
not correct. To change binding order, go to network and dial-up
connections, the
advanced menu item, advanced settings. Please make sure Local Area
Connection is the first of binding list.

Thanks & Regards,
Peter Yang
