Is it possible to get the AIX 6.1 servers syslog to remote log to my linuxserver running rsyslog?
the remotlogging works fine from the other linuxservers but I can't get it running on my AIX servers
messages from the aixserver never appers on the rsyslogserver

I mange to get the AIX-server to remotelog to a Redhat server running standard syslog.

It worked to send logmessages to a linuxserver whit standard syslogd BUT NOT to my rsyslog server

There must be some firewall in between - because rsyslog really doesn't care from whom messages come (it actually does not even know if the source is AIX or something else).

You can run rsyslog in debug mode (see troubleshooting doc) to see if rsyslog receives any messages at all (and they may simple be not logged).

There is no firewall.. It worked to regular syslog, but now I run tcpdump and I got the following..


12:19:45.601194 IP logserver01 > client03: ICMP logserver01 udp port syslog unreachable, length 104

what's your rsyslog.conf? do you start an UDP listener on port 514? (I assume AIX sends to 514)

I'm so lame.. I had not active rsyslog to recive UDP messages, only tcp..

It works now!
