Using Rsyslog to change Encodings

Postby smartdave » Mon Jul 03, 2017 2:21 pm

Good Day

I am curious if Rsyslog can change encodings of syslog messages.

The scenario I have is Source device logs in EUC-KR and I would like to syslog the logs to an Rsyslog server and it will the relay the message in UTF8 to an upstream system.

I have searched around and can not seem to find a post saying this is either possible or not.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Dave

no, rsyslog doesn't actually understand encodings (with the exception of parsing JSON), it treats the logs as a string of bytes and doesn't care what the encoding is for non-ASCII bytes that it processes.
