SNMP support

Postby liposss » Mon Jul 14, 2008 5:04 pm

Hi,

I just installed rsyslog v2in my RH5.1 distribution and trying to collect all data form my network infrastructure.
The only problem is that part of them doesn’t have any syslog support - all they have is SNMP Trap features.

Can Rsyslog collect SNMP traps like a regular Syslog messages?
I guess that I will have to update my syslog to version 3?
Can somebody give me some advices, articles, manuals?

As far as I know there's no input module for SNMP messages, but snmptrapd (part of the Net-SNMP suite) is very easy to setup as a translator. You can configure it to log messages to syslog or pass them to your own executable handlers for further wrangling before they get logged. More details at http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/docs/man/snmptrapd.html
