Segmentation fault at boot

Postby littlesaint » Sat Aug 09, 2008 1:17 am

Odd problem. I'm running CentOS 5.2. I compiled, installed, and setup the latest stable release (3.18.2) without issue. When the server boots, rsyslogd fails to start. An error is shown on the startup console as "/bin/bash line 1 xxxx segmentation fault" where xxxx is a number between 7360 and 7370. This only happens at boot. If I start rsyslogd using init after the system is up, it starts fine.

Thoughts???

Hi,
I think there may be something wrong occurred while configuring and installing it. You just run ./configure and the remaining steps and reboot the system.

Let me know what is the result.

Prakash. :)

What command are you passing after boot to start rsyslogd?

If Prakash's suggestion doesn't correct the issue, can you post your init script, the output of "chkconfig --list ryslsog," and the output of "grep -i rsyslog /etc/rc.local?"

I'm leaning toward a system problem. I re-installed everything (OS + rsyslogd) in a VM with the exact same setup, and it works fine. I'll try re-installing first, and then start from scratch. Thanks all.
