Event 26, Source = App Popup

Postby Memphis on Wed Aug 27, 2003 12:55 am

Earlier today I got an annoying popup telling me to go somewhere to get rid of spyware, yadda yadda. This surprised me because I had only just finished scanning my system for spyware with Webroot's Spy Sweeper. I knew it wasn't an html popup, so with this information I set off to solve the problem on my own. So far I have learned that it is an event, from the Sysevent.evt file? And when I use the Event Viewer, the only thing it tells me is that it's an Application Popup. I know this, I'm not dumb. My knowledge on events is rather limited, since this is the first time I've really had to deal with them. Is it possible to find out what certain file is causing this event? Is it an event? With a file monitor I downloaded i determined it is caused by Sysevent.evt but this is not the spyware. I guess i'm just asking for help in determining the cause of this spyware. Thanx for all your help in advance.

It must be relatively new spyware, since an up2date Spy Sweeper could not detect it and an up2date Ad-Aware could not detect it also.
