XP error (?) when posting on forums

Postby Tal on Sat Aug 16, 2003 6:40 pm

Hello

I have Windows XP on my computer, an old 450 MHz Pentium 3 with 320 megs of RAM. Recently I have encountered a wierd problem (out of nowhere) when browing some web forums. The problem is that when I try to post something long in the forum it simply loads for quite some time and after that I get "page not found". Posting short messages works without any problems.

Now, I have no idea what causes this problem. After it surfaced for the first time I formatted the computer and reinstalled everything from Windows upwards. After that everything worked fine for a few days, but now the problem is back. The problem seems to selective, some boards work well while some don't. Has anyone encountered this sort of problem before?

It also affects Hotmail. It works fine otherwise, but it doesn't open any messages for reading.

Does not look like a "Windows" related problem to me.
There could be a numerous reasons for this problem.

I bad network connection, bad network drivers, a malfunctioning Ethernet switch or whatever.

Please describe your network environment as well as your network hardware, and the way you connect to the Internet.

This problem appears on my home computer. All the hardware has been compatible in the past (for several years) and when this problem appeared no new hardware was plugged in. It just worked one day and didn't work the next. Driver problem could explain it, but the effects would be pretty wierd, affecting only a few web sites. This site for example doesn't seem to be affected at all.

The OS is the Finnish version of XP Pro. The computer is connected to the internet through an ADSL modem and it's not connected to any other network.

Possible the sites you are accessing are overloaded?

No, they work perfectly well for other people. I'm the only one I know with this problem... I'll try checking if it's a driver or a cookie problem.

Also try an alternative browser like Opera (www.opera.com).
It maybe gives you better error messages.

Well, at least it's not the cookies. Unless there is something in the cookie setup that doesn't go with my system. I also tried what happens with Opera. What I got was a lot of loading and then "Connection closed by remote server".

And thanks for the help. Nothing has worked yet but the problem is also wierd :?
