NT4 to Windows2003

Postby Bert Holmes on Thu Jun 19, 2003 11:34 am

Going from NT4 on an old server, which is the PDC and
moving to a new server with Windows Server2003. Does the
new server need to be brought in as an NT4 BDC and then
upgraded to PDC and then to 2003? Just informed this has
to be done this weekend.
Any information, links, etc.. would be appreciated.

THanks.
Bert.

Bringing the new server in as a BDC and then upgrading would be the easiest
way to do it. Basic Proces is this:

-->Install NT4 as a BDC on a extra machine. Sync the domain. Shutdown this
machine and disconnect it. You'll need it if something goes wrong and you
need to restore the NT4 domain.
-->Install NT4 as a BDC on the new machine, Sync it. Use Server Manager to
promote the new BDC to
PDC
-->Pop in the 2003 CD and do the upgrade

This article was initially written for Windows 2000, but it still applies:
