rsyslog ONLY for remote events coming in via UDP

Postby evert on Wed Feb 01, 2006 8:42 am

Hi all!

I would like to use rsyslog to log events coming from a bunch of (remote) hosts, but NOT any of the local requests (which are handled by syslog-ng).

Is '-o -r 514' all I need to accomplish this?

Hi Evert,

yes, you are correct. However, you probably need the development version from CVS, because the -o option in previous releases did open the local socket (though not read it). This caused problems with syslog-ng, at least on sopme systems. So for a safe bet, use the CVS version (link is in the header of this site).

I will also relaese an updated build pretty soon.

Will version 1.0.4 (released today) do the trick as well?

No. The reason is that the stable version is stable because it won't receive any new code. The smart parser has *a lot* of new code.

Hmm, then a real newbie question, but... How do I download the CVS-version? ;-)

I found the 'Browse CVS' link, but I don't see a package there, just single files...

Sorry for not being specific. Please go to this page

http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=123448

and follow the instructions under "Anonymous CVS Access". That will do the trick. Let me know if you have trouble.

Hi!

Does this option work correctly in the recently released devel version 1.12.2? 8)
