Seperate logs by host??

Postby Hypatia on Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:06 pm

Can Rsyslog create seperate logfiles based on the source host?
I have several hosts log to one server which I'd like to have maintain seperate files for each syslog client. Can I do this with rsyslog?

I am sorry, the current release does not support this. It's on my todo list, but I think it is at least 4 weeks away from now.

Just for those coming from a search engine to this thread. It is supported based on BSD syntax in rsyslog 1.11.1 and above. I am just preparing this release for downloading. It is already available in CVS.

Examples of seperate log by host

Postby ndot on Wed Nov 02, 2005 11:42 pm

Hello,

I was looking through the 1.12.0 source, but I couldn't find an example of by-hostname or by-ip logging. Would you please post one?

Thanks
ndot

sure:

Code: Select all
+host
*.* /var/log/host1

+host2
*.* /var/log/host2

I hope this helps.

Is there a way of doing a range of hosts vs. just one host at a time?

Thanks,
Javier
