rsyslog 0.9.6 redhat enterprise 4 remote logging

Postby tipougni on Sat Aug 13, 2005 2:21 pm

Hi all,
I've just installed the last version on enterprise 4 and I can't get the remote feature to work.
I started a rsyslogd -r 514 -t 514 on my centralyzed log server, and put a @IPLogServer on the rsyslogd.conf of the clients, but it seems that the client don't use the network at all. If i "tcpdump" on the port 514 of my client I don't see anything.
I tried the 0.9.4 version as well, same problem.

Any Idea ?

Thanks.

PS: What plaisir it is to be able to make template for our logs, wonderfull !! thanks a lot.

Hi,

let me start with a probably dumb question ;) Are there any firewall settings that prevent message delivery? If that does not bring us further, please add -d -n to the startup options and run rsyslogd interactively in the foreground (as root!). These options enable debug logging, which should tell us about any issue it experiences when starting up. Maybe you can post the displayed debug log.
