Windows 2003 server suddenly restart

Postby henryto on Tue Feb 28, 2006 8:35 am

I have setup a new windows 2003 serve sine sept 2005. This server is setup as a file server and a terminal server.
In my office, I have 5-6 thin client and normal pc used to connect the terminal server. And also 14-15 PCs connected to the server using windows ME. Unfortunately, the server may suddenly restart a few times a week or a day. I have take a look of the event log and can't find any events about the unexpected restart. I only found that the DNS will prompt some error. But I guess it would cause the server. Do anybody can give me some advise?
Or I should reinstall everything and try?

lets have a little back ground please!

You say you installed Win2K3 in 2005, when did you start getting the reboot error?

Have you taken the machine down and checked it for any possible hardware errors?

Have you made sure you don't have a tempreture problem in the room where the machine is being used?

Does the hardware come with and monitoring software link the HP Insight manager? This will tell you if you have a hardware issue.

Try and find some form of common fact for the different reboot times, is it when the machine backs up? Is it when it's been running for a few hours? things like that.

Run DCdiag and other Windows tools see if they pick up any problems.
