Windows error Need help please.

Postby ShaneS on Mon Mar 17, 2003 11:35 pm

Hi,
I just updated my computer to a ASUS A7N8X normal motherboard, ASUS Ti4200 8x AGP 128DDR ram, 512 PC2700 ram, AMD 2100 XP CPU, and a New Case. I hook everything up correctly and make sure snug and correct pins on connectors. Hook all the power up ect. I Start the boot up, get the power checks everything looks good. Then start to go into windows XP and I get this Error : "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent any damage to your computer." Then has a bunch of numbers under Technical information. I've called tech support from asus and havnt really done anything for me. Looking for anyone with an answer to my problem please help!

What Hardware did you have before?
And did you a new installation of Windows XP? If not, this could cause a lot of such problems.

So you did a fresh install. Btw, you don't need fdisk to format the harddisk during setup - Windows XP Setup can do this as well.

However, inyour case I would recommend that you update to the latest BIOS (IF there a newer one). This might help.

You can find new BIOS files for your Mobo here: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download ... Name=A7N8X

can't say I can help, but I have had problems with a few new motherboards where I can't get Windows XP to install for love nor money.

Won't have it - no way, nothing I've tried has worked and I've had to revert to Windows 2000 Pro.

You could try and set the BIOS to fail safe defaults, and see if that helps with the boot process... some guys here have tried an upgrade installation with some success...
