Way back after version 2.0 came out there was talk of a desktop version that would read the same XML files.

What ever happened to that idea?

sorry, this feature has been canceled from the feature list because, all in all, we received too few feedback to justify an implementation. An implementation is causing much effort and ressources and it was decided that business-wise it is nothing we intend to do at the moment.

I am sorry that I have no better answer.
