hwo does the crash look like?
Can you may make a screenshot, or write some more details about it?
Do you have any kind of Software installed that alters the windows desktop? Software like Window blinds or Style XP.

Same thing happens to me. Windows XP Pro, all patches installed. No skinning programs or anything, only started after I upgraded from Home to Professional. I just found the relevant .cpl applets and made shortcuts to them.

Do you have NVidia based gfx card?
If yes do you have NVIEW enabled whichis part of the nvidia driver package?

I do and yes.. i assume there is a problem there.
If I open the control panel in a small window so only the first icons appear it dosent crash. But if I expand the window it crashes.

Are you saying its the NVIEW icon\program that crashes it?
In that case how do I fix it?

The nView component can be very buggy and can cause explorer or other components to crash.
If you expierience strange things I would recommend disabling nView, it helped in my case ;)

I have had a similar problem, just my explorer crashed whenever i clicked a file or e´wanted to rename anything within the explorer.

The problem was a Shell running from Webroot's Spy Sweeper, I disabled it and everything i good now.

use it, sort after "type=context menu", and disable one by one until your problem is gone.

Driver Aopen not work correctly

Postby xanxullo on Mon Oct 04, 2004 3:42 pm

I have had a similar problem with Windows 2000 Server and all patches installed. My graphic card is Aopen Aeolus FX5200-DV256 and last driver from Aopen is ver 66.1.
I have installed the last driver from Nvidia's web and the control panel works fine already.
