Postby donster on Thu Feb 19, 2004 10:25 pm

hi

i am trying to install an epson scanner (3170) but after installing the software, when i turn the scanner on i get an error message saying,

"class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device"

does anyone know why or what this is? I am using the correct driver for the scanner.

I found a Newsgroup Posting regarding this Problem, maybe it helps :

Gav wrote:Hello,

I have done a fair bit of research into my problem to no avail,
perhaps someone has the definitive answer:-

I have XP pro and had a Trust spacecam 120 working fine. I moved house
and for some reason when I reconnected things it no longer worked. So
I uninstalled driver and then reinstalled but now I get:

"The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this
device"

What does this mean? The camera shows up under imaging devices with a
"!" next to it. reinstalling driver does not help. unplugging device,
reinstalling drivers and plugging back in the camera also fails...

I am logged in with Admin privilages and have the latest XP driver
file.

Any clues to the meaning of this error?

useful:

the registry entries made by the webcam driver strangely could only be
deleteed by the Administrator, however - I was logged in as a user who
was a member of the Admin group but for some reason only the actual
Administrator user could remove the entries... dunno why that was...
Anyway, after manually removing the registry entries and reinstalling
the driver there were no problems!

checking the setupapi.log file that XP uses is definately a great help
diagnosing driver instllation problems.

good luck

Class Installer

I get the same message when I try to install my webcam. Can someone help me with a step by step instruction on how to solve this problem?

Dimage Xg Camera: The class installer has denied etc.

Postby Nofiwr on Thu Dec 02, 2004 2:23 am

The drivers load fine (P&P) with W2K and the Cam works fine there but not on my new XP (SP2) m/c because of the above problem.

I tried removing ALL instances I could find of Registry Keys containing 'Minolta' (and yes, I had to change permissoins on some of them).

Re-installing just brings the problem back - still no Webcam - any ideas?

Thanks, (nofiwr.cryf@virgin.net)

Dimage Xg Driver problem - Sorted!

Postby Nofiwr on Thu Dec 02, 2004 11:24 am

At about 03:00 I actually managed to install the drivers for this Dimage Xg camera. The actual steps were probably more than actually required but they worked for me!

1) un-install (if it let me)
2) remove the h/w
3) find and remove every Registry Key containing the word 'Minolta' (Probably ott but hey? )
3a) some of these had to have their permissions changed
4) close down (Not Re-start, I picked this up from another forum!)
5) install driver from disk - Note no use of P+P - h/w still not attached
6) close down and start up
7) plug in h/w (switched on first) and go through plug n play (I saw an additional device to choose from this time! :? )

Success! :D

A techie could probably cut this down to the essential steps only but I make no claims to such levels of knowledge :P

solved

used registrar lite to delete all asscociated manufacturer registry entries except for the access denied ones. Driver installation then worked perfectly.

In my case I finally noticed that the readme file said the drivers were for Win98 only.

I did a search and found the right drivers and they installed correctly the first time.
