.asp page for viewing logs... anyway to customize it?

Postby Justin on Fri Apr 30, 2004 7:13 pm

I like the asp page for viewing the logs but was wondering if there was any way to add these features:

- a search by date/time feature
- a search by facility feature
- a more customizable output... (30 entries is not enough)

Dear Justin,

You can currently only configure the values that are present in ConfigSettings.asp (There are lot of help comments in this page that will help you out in setting the appropriate settings). We are currently working on a better Online Syslog Viewer which is called PhpLogCon. Hopefully it will be released soon. It will have lot of filters that you can apply to view the data.

Dear Justin,

To configure the number of records that you like to see on one page, kindly do the following:

1. Open Eventsonline.asp
2. Go to line 407
3. Change rsPageSize = 30 to whatever value you feel like.
4. Save this page
5. Refresh your page.

I hope it will help

Hi wrehman,

Thanks for your reply. With your changes the web interface is close to being usefull for us. Here is what we need for it to be perfect.

The ability to create a web query that only returns data from a certain facility, or host. (Right now the query will sort by facility but will still return all records for that day. It's too slow)

The ability to create a query that will only return data from within a certain timeframe within a day. (ie 13:05 - 13:06) again this reduces query time and log searching.

The ability to search for entries containing specific text.

Please let us know if and when these functions will be available.

Thanks,
Justin

Dear Justin,

as Wajih mention, we have a new Online Syslog Viewer called PhpLogCon. Currently there is only a beta version available. It seems that PhpLogCon is the tool you are looking for.

It has some filter settings which make the review of data more efficient. E.g. filter for message content, host, priority, info unit, ...

If you want to give PhpLogCon a chance, simply let me know. Then I will provide you the beta version.

Best regards,

Hi,

We are looking at WinSyslog and this would help us with the log file viewing. Are update on the PHP viewer with filtering yet?

Dear Stephen,

yes, phplogcon is available with filter option. Unfortunately the documention/manual is not up to date. Therefore we haven't release it yet. However, if you want to give phplogcon a try you can download it at

http://www.adiscon.org/downlaod/phplogcon.zip

It is easy to install (InstallGuide.pdf), but as I mentioned there are currently no information on how to use it.

If you need further assistance, please ask.

Best regards,
