MonitorWare - Write to Event

Postby Bertolino » Thu Jun 24, 2004 2:51 pm

Hi

My question is:

Is it possible to write also a description to the Eventlog and not only a Event ID and Event Type?

Kind regards

Bertolino,

can you please tell us, in which way you want to use such a feature. It would be very helpful for use to understand in which environment such a change make sense.

Maybe we have already a solution for you. Do you forward the events via a "forward via syslog" message? In the forward via syslog action you can modify the message format. Is this a solution for you?

I'm looking for your reply.

Hi

So we have to write the Event to the Application Event Log. The TNG Agent then takes care of this Event.

These are two different teams, one (operating) looks only on the Application Evenlog, where all others Events are written, and the other team on their console.

To help the operating team, it would be nice to have a description for them.

Kind regards

Bertonlino,

let me add a little. I am not sure if we not already support such a thing. But I have to admit I, too, did not fully understand what you are looking for. I would appreciate if you could elaborate a little - then we can provide a better reply.

Thanks,
Rainer

Bertolino,

actually our two postings crossed. I think I now understand what you want, that is create a custom event with a custom text. So far, we are always writing the event log message back to it - definitely not what you want.

Let us check the current code a little. Meanwhile, you may want to have a look at http://www.activelogger.com/ - together with a small VBS script it can do this. Maybe this is a work-around for you until we can look at the "write event log action".

We will keep you posted.

Bertolino,

that, too was an easy enhancement. Find a new version here:

www.adiscon.org/download/MWareMax21sp1.exe

This file is currently uploading, it should be available in around 10 minutes after this post (I need to leave now, so I thought I let you know;)).
