master browser

I am asking the same question myself, but I have seen this error come and go all by itself over the past two years. It eventually goes away but in the mean time it prevents the use of mapped drives. they say to check the subnet masks, but mine are all the same.

Master Browser

Check the error and see if it specifies which machine is forcing the election. Sometimes the error will name the machine causing the problem. If it is an XP machine you will need to disable the master browser via a registry hask or via the local policy setting. If it is a win 9x machine there is a setting in the network settings you will need to disable. Hope this helps.

Browser elections

Postby DaveD on Fri Apr 16, 2004 10:27 pm

If you have any windows machines on a separate subnet you will get browser election wars like this if certain broadcasts are forwarded on the router. I stopped this by adding the following to all my Cisco router configs:

ip classless
no ip forward-protocol udp netbios-ns
no ip forward-protocol udp netbios-dgm
