This is the place for you, if you got rsyslog up and running but wonder how to make it do what you want.

source Hostname / ip address on nortel gear

Postby aedurkee » Mon Jun 22, 2009 5:56 pm

Hi,
Sorry if I didn't see this in the documents before hand but is there a way to put into the log the hostname or ip address of the sending device with a method other then the Hostname in message? My Network administrator is telling me on our Nortel Passports there is no way to set a hostname in the syslog message, it simply reports what the switch thinks it is which is CPU5.
A sample message from a rawmsg template gives:
Jun 22 09:32:22 CPU5 [06/22/09 13:32:23] SNMP INFO Link Up(4/18)

Is there something I can do with rsyslog.conf change cpu5 to an ip (or fqdn)?

Thanks in advance, Aaron

I found it, the property replacers page is what I wanted, it was tucked away as a single sentence in the middle of a page.
