local area connections and tcp/ip problems

Postby shaky25 on Tue Mar 04, 2003 5:41 am

Ok, I did something really dumb trying to enhance my system... I tried to delete two local area connections that I was not using on my system (WINDOWS 2000 Pro OS). I couldn't delete them so I uninstalled the microsoft client networks and pretty much everything in the general tab for each connection. My computer restarted and I haven't been able to connect online and browse since. SBCglobal.net can't figure it out. We have tried installing, uninstalling and reinstalling the connections, network cards and windows 2000. I still can't get browse the internet. Now I have installed Winxp over win 2000 (not the upgrade). I want to completely reformat my hard drive and install win 98 (keep it simple) as if I have a new system and new hard drive. How can I accomplish the reformat of my drive (i believe the partition is NTFS). Thank you for your help.

The Windows 98 setup disk should provide the ability to reformat the complete hard disk. Anyhow, if you have problems with this, you might want to obtain a DOS disk from a running system (a friend?). Make sure it has fdisk on it. After boot, you can run fdisk to delete the partitions. The, go back to the OS setup (e.g. Win98) and run it.

I can also suggest the TECHW0RM Bootdisk to you. Can be downloaded from here: http://www.geocities.com/jezyske/comphelp.html

It is a very good enhanced MSDOS Bootdisk with lots of options, and a very good partition manager included.
