V3 stable under GPLv2?

Postby tim1aust » Tue Feb 17, 2009 6:32 pm

Hi, I am new to the list, and have looked but not found any discussion around the specific rationale for licensing of V3 stable under GPLv3. Is it possible that V3 stable could be released under the GPLv2?

The "tivoisation" issue with GPLv3 would prevent my group from using rsyslog V3 stable, although we'd prefer to use it over the V2 stable release.

tia for your consideration

hehe... so the license swith to v3 seems to work. It was specifically done to prevent "tiviosation" and seems to handle that issue well.

Original rationale here:

Even if I were willing to change v3 back to GPLv2 (I am not ;)), I could not even do so, because there are many individual contributors who would need to agree to that act.

I hope this clarifies.
