Creating rule set to email specific events

Postby Paul on Thu Jan 22, 2004 3:58 pm

I am a little confused about trying to creeate a rule set.

I have a rule for database logging working already.

I want to create a rule to forward an email when a specific event is triggered.
Let me know if these sets are incorrect.
I create a new rule set. I called it Email alert. The action is send email.
The filter conditions by default only has a green AND button.
If I select add filter, and select event log monitor, and choose event ID, all I need to do is input the specific ID I want to filter out and then set up the email rule with the server settings, ie, server address, email address.
Is this All I need to do? and can I add multipe entries like this for other events?

Thanks
Paul

Dear Paul,

Some background first to make the concept clear to you. Each RuleSet can have as many Rules as you like and only one Rule Set can be associated with any service at a time. Each Rule in turn can have one filter condition but as many actions as you like. All the Rules that are part of a specific rule set are executed in a sequential manner.

Global Conditions apply to the rule as whole. They are automatically combined with a logical "AND" with the conditions in the filter tree.

If you want to learn more about our Rule Engine to get most out of our products, I would suggest that you to go through this article.

Follow these steps:
1. Create a new Rule (not Ruleset) as Email Alert.
2. Set the action as "Send Email". Set the settings.
3. Click on the Filter Condition:
Add Filter -> Event Log Monitor -> Event ID and specifiy the Event ID you want to filter. You can make your filter condition as complex as you want.
4. Save the changes.
5. Don't forget to restart the service.
File -> Restart/Start

I hope this clarify your queries. If you have further queries we would be glad to help you.
