Log ip address instead of short hostname

This is the place for you, if you got rsyslog up and running but wonder how to make it do what you want.

Log ip address instead of short hostname

Postby zyga » Mon Oct 13, 2008 6:03 pm

I have rsyslog v. 3.18 installed on central rsyslog and remote rsyslogs.
I want log remote machine with ip address not with short name.
It is possible?

Ya. Its possible. You change the name of the client system in /etc/hosts file and reboot the system.

A) Reboot's a rarely if ever required in a unix environment (usually only revolve around kernel patches).
B) Change the template to use "fromhost-ip", and it should do what you want, without having to change anything else. See documentation on the property replacer.
