...no more endpoints available from the endpoint manager.

Postby Lloyd7703 » Mon Nov 03, 2003 6:08 pm

I have a Win 2000 AD network that is primarily made up of XP clients. I do have a couple NT 4.0 and Win 98 machines. For some reason I am having a problem with one Win 2000 server in particular. The server is only a member server. It does not run any domain services, nor does it replicate AD info. My NT 4.0 clients get the following error when trying to connect to any shares on that server:

There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint manager.

And my Win 98 clients get the following error when trying to connect to that server:

Unknown error 31.

My XP clients have no issues connecting to this server at all. I have rebooted and this has not resolved the issue. I have noticed other postings around the net regarding this problem that refered to DNS issues or issues with an Exchange server. Neither of these things apply. I am not running Exchange and DNS is not an issues because I getting the same error when trying to connect with the IP address instead of the network name. Any help woulr be appreciated.

Hi,

great error messages these days.
I am sorry I have no solutino at the moment

What I found out about system error 31:
Code: Select all
//
// MessageId: ERROR_GEN_FAILURE
//
// MessageText:
//
//  A device attached to the system is not functioning.
//
#define ERROR_GEN_FAILURE                31L

Well this error is more then useless.
Is this Server directly connected to the Internet?
Do you have latest ServicPack installed?
And latest Security patches?

Is this Server directly connected to the Internet?

No, it is connected to our corporate intranet which is private and protected (from the outside world) network.

Do you have latest ServicPack installed?

It is currently at SP 2.

And latest Security patches?

The only security patches are the last to RPC vulnerability patches that we applied due to the recent virus issues. I would think that the patches themselves might be the problem since the issue is with the RPC service, but the problem only recently appeared; long after these pacthes were applied.

Well I was just asking to make sure ;)
The latest security patches have caused a lot of problems (Some ppl even had bluescreens and so). So Microsoft revised a few patches approx one week ago.

Take a look to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/securi ... noct03.asp and maybe you should reinstall some of this patches by using Windows Update.

I am sorry but without any other error codes/messages, I will not be able to help you :-/.
