well...this happens to us about once every 4-5 months. The server is a dell 8-way, 8gb of memory, running win2k, and sql. It is connected to a san for storage. The server performs great until this happens...and it just disappears and locks up. Go to the console and nothing is on the screen and it cannnot be power cycled with the power button or reset button. The power cord has to be pulled. The server comes back up fine and all is well. This is the first time we have ever had anything in the event log when the server comes back up. However, I am not able to find anything on the event log.

The ID is 4021 and states the following...

The server was unable to allocate a work item 1 times in the last 60 seconds.


anyone with any suggestions?

Hard to say by what it was caused.
Which event source does this event have?

the source is "srv".

Also...I thought this was right before the server crashed...turns out it was on the 14th...three days before. Still haven't ruled it out yet..

The EventID is 2021, can that be?
