Event 4201 "tcpip adapter" .NET is evil

Postby hollowtip on Sat Oct 25, 2003 2:13 am

Ever since I installed .NET about 2 weeks ago, my computer has been randomly timing out of online games, regardless of what game it is. I check the event viewer and it shows:

"Event ID: 4201 - The system detected that network adapter 3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940) - Packet Scheduler Miniport was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter."

Shortly after this error my computer reconnects to the internet via dhcp on my linksys router.

Steps I have taken to fix the problem: Uninstalled .NET - reinstalled windows - updated drivers for my linksys router AND my 3com built in NIC card - disabled ALOT of services.

My last resort will be to format. but I REALLY dont want to have it come to that. Anyone have any idea on how I could resolve this issue please? :(

Hi,

it maybe is not a software problem, it may is a hardware one.
It could be that your network cable is not fully plugged in or is damaged.

I would recommend to try another network cable (if you have another one). And if this does not work another network card.

update your linksys firmware. It is a known problem with certain routers.

Yes, thank you for your help, I found out it was the router after testing it. I have since bought a "linksys BEFSR41 v3" router, and that fixed my problems (before I had a linksys BEFSR41 v2). But recently I've been getting DHCPNACK issues with this new router.

After leaving the computer on for 24+ hours the DHCP sever seems to drop me and attempt to reattain a dhcp for me. but fails, and eventually disconnects me from the internet. I get several "event 1002" followed by "event 1003" (dhcp errors, then finally dhcp failure)
