EventREporter logging fully qualified domain names

Postby smack on Sun Nov 09, 2003 5:23 pm

Event reporter is sending the fully qualified domain name to the winsyslog server. Example: server@domain.com This is only happening on a couple of my servers. How can I get it back to just logging the server name without the domain name?

Hi,

how do you mean is sending to WinSyslog Server?
Do you mean the field within teh syslgo message?
Or do you mean the name if Resolve DNS Names is enabled?

Here is a sample of the entry that is in my winsyslog server. The server name in question is in bold. Most of my server names show up as ACS rather than acs.herald-leader.com. Where can I change this setting so they show up as the name only rather than name and domain?

2003-11-10,00:00:26,acs.herald-leader.com,16,5,EvntSLog: [INF] Mon Nov 10 00:00:04 2003: ACS/DhcpServer (1039) - " The DHCP service has cleaned up the database for multicast IP addresses -- 0 leases have expired (been marked for deletion) and 0 records have been removed from the database."

Ok then its DNS Resolution.
But this is perfectly correct. The whole name is resolved including its domain. If you would only get ACS as name returned, this would indicate that the IP was not found in any DNS System and the NetBIOS name was returned.

But as this name is returned by the system, there is nothing you can configure about it. You can turn it on or off, I am sorry.
