Setting up a new internal LAN. Testing with 1 W2K workstation & 1 W2K server connected via crossover. Server is the Domain Controller with DNS and Active Directory installed. Workstation can ping (by address & name) the server and vice-versa. Workstation can join the domain. Users can authenticate thru the server. Problem: workstation does show up in the browser - only the server. No one can ping the domain. NSLOOKUP (workstations & server) gives the correct address of the server but says that the domain does not exist and the server is unknown. Event viewer (server - DNS) says that there is no DNS server. The domain, server & workstations are all listed in DNS and Active Directory correctly. I have verified the addresses (not using DHCP). Workstations can map to the server with either command or browser. No additional software (office apps, etc..) installed on either to cause this. I have reinstalled repeatedly trying various settings/etc..with the same result. I have installed WINS - looks good but doesn't help. What is wrong and how do I fix it? How is the workstation able to join the domain? Please help ASAP!

HI,

I am not sure If I got your right, but for me it looks like an DNS Name resolution problem. Check the following things:

1. Are all workstations and Servers in the same IP Network?
2. Do all workstations have a DNS Server configured? If yes, do they have the correct dns suffix configured?
