don't find the /etc/init.d/rsyslog on Ubuntu 8.04

Postby sebk on Mon Jun 02, 2008 10:00 pm

i download the packet "rsyslog 3.19.5 (devel) released", unpack it and did
./config
make
make install

i used http://www.rsyslog.com/doc-install.html and get to step 7 and searched for /etc/init.d/rsyslog which should be there and is need to do a automatic startup of rsyslog.

I found a script on an other forum, bt this doesn't work.

how shold a startskript look like? where can I found one? Why there is nothing on my system?

thank you for answering

thank you for your quick answer. I'm a new on linux. I tryed dget, put there is not command like that.

i also think the reason i don't find rsyslog can be, that i enabled postgresql. does the searched file has also an other name?

rklogd was removed and is now a module. Please see this document for information/options.

It is invoked in the rsyslogd.conf file as such:
Code: Select all
$ModLoad imklog

Either install devscripts (which contains dget) or use something like

wget http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/ma ... -1.diff.gz -O - | gunzip | patch -p1

Then you can use debian/rsyslog.init and copy it into /etc/init.d
