Ask yourself this question:

Why do i need more than one user to have access to the logs?

please post a reply.

o.O It depends on: What kind of logs? And how many users can have access to the logs and should have access to them?

So there is a need to specify log viewing based on user credentials?

What about, if you are the host of many virtual hosts and want site admins to have access to apache/IIS/php/asp error and warning logs for there server. This would be an example?

I have an ftp server in a DMZ that recieves a large number of files that are then passed to sites in different parts of the country. The new version of the ftp server allows syslogging of uploads - so I can now give the site end-users the facility to watch their files coming in live. I want to be able to restrict them to ONLY seeing their files, but I want to be able to see them all. I also want a searchable DB of the files for queries and so on - you can do so much more with a DB than with a plain text log file.

I use rsyslog / phplogcon for logging all:

mail.*

so that staff can access the maillog and trouble-shoot mailing problems at the 1st and 2nd level before forwarding the case to 3rd level (which requires ssh access which 1st and 2nd level don't have).

Regards,

Michael.

Hi,

just as a reminder for all: The current implementation of multiple users in phpLogCon is more a kind of profiles than a security feature. If the user interface is enabled (define('_ENABLEUI', 1); in config.php) the user has the a capability to save the preferred style sheet, language and filter settings. You can not restrict access to the logs via phpLogCon's user interface.
