Stock out of the box Debian Jessie. No customization to rsyslog.

I get

Sep 11 07:35:04 bigal rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd" swVersion="8.4.2" x-pid="698" x-info="http://www.rsyslog.com"] rsyslogd was HUPed
Sep 11 07:35:04 bigal anacron[25992]: Job `cron.daily' terminated
Sep 11 07:35:04 bigal anacron[25992]: Normal exit (1 job run)
Sep 11 07:40:01 bigal rsyslogd0: action 'action 17' resumed (module 'builtin:ompipe') [try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/0 ]
Sep 11 07:40:01 bigal rsyslogd-2359: action 'action 17' resumed (module 'builtin:ompipe') [try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2359 ]

Same here, pretty vanilla Jessie running in VirtualBox. No rsyslog custom config.

Sep 22 06:25:05 server1 rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd" swVersion="8.4.2" x-pid="16473" x-info="http://www.rsyslog.com"] rsyslogd was HUPed
...
Sep 22 06:26:53 server1 rsyslogd0: action 'action 17' resumed (module 'builtin:ompipe') [try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/0 ]
Sep 22 06:26:53 server1 rsyslogd-2359: action 'action 17' resumed (module 'builtin:ompipe') [try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2359 ]

The HUP happens every day at 06:25, and predictably it's caused by logrotate's cronjob. I checked and my Wheezy box works exactly the same way, except it doesn't throw those 2 error messages minutes later. On Jessie, it consistently does.

If your server is headless, disable xconsole entry:

# daemon.*;mail.*;\
# news.err;\
# *.=debug;*.=info;\
# *.=notice;*.=warn |/dev/xconsole

best regards,

Hubert

Hubert,

I see the same messages as dabreese00 - vanilla Jessie installed on hard-drive partition. But I do not understand what you suggested. Can you please explain for a Debian newbie?

Thanks...
- Ajoy

either comment out these lines (as suggested by the OP) or delete them. you do not need them and they produce this error.

About the KnowledgeBase Event Repository

This is a repository of known Windows Events, hopefully together with a description of what it means, when it appears and how to troubleshoot it. The event repository was initially provided as a tool for parser creation but has since evolved. It is now part of the overall knowledgebase in the hope that it provides a useful service to the community. Please add your comments and questions (which we try to answer), as this increases the event repository usefulness for all of us.
