full message on the main page/SNMP traps

Postby liposss » Wed Jul 16, 2008 3:18 pm

Hi,

Two questions:

1. Is there a way to show full messages on the 'Show Events' page?
I get those SNMP traps with a lot of information’s and that would be really helpful.
I wouldn't need to click it every time to see all content.

2. I got some SNMP traps messages but with ugly format in 'Message' column.
Is there a way to solve this problem? Delete unwanted parts of the message?

phpLogCon professional services

  • Custom phpLogCon configuration?
  • Maintenance Contract?
  • Installation support?

Hi,

yes you can edit your config.php and higher "ViewMessageCharacterLimit" value to 500 or 1024. This will be enough to fully print most of common messages.
Regarding your second issue, I am not sure what you mean by "ugly" ;).

Can you post which version you are using, and a screenshot what you mean by ugly?

best regards,

1. Thx :)
2. Check what I mean by ugly snmptrap messages below.
3. Also, 'Host' field shows the devices IP. Can we somehow change it do a hostname?

Ah ok I see what you mean by ugly ;)
Well we cannot change this within phpLogCon yet as this is how the snmptraps are translated into syslog.

Regarding the hostfield, this is currently not possible but would make sense as additional functionality. I will but this on our TODO list as feature request.

on the hostnames: rsyslog can do reverse dns lookups and does so by default. -x is used to turn it off. Doesn't this work?

The hostname works only for the local host and says 'syslog' like it should.
When it comes to others, I can only see IP addresses.

may it be that these names are not DNS resolvable? In any case, I suggest you move to the rsyslog related part of this form and post a question why the hostnames are not resolved (just to keep the forum focussed). They should. I can take it up once posted. Please make sure that -x is NOT given as a startup option to rsyslogd.
