Event ID 677: Service Ticket Request Failed

Postby JackZee » Sat Oct 16, 2004 12:32 am

We are using Windows 2000 Server, Active Directory. When I log onto our network, I am unable to access some of my share drives. While reviewing the security event log, I see that I get the event id 677 error stating that for my id, I do not get authenticated. The Kerberos error number is 7. Please provide any assistance. Thank you in advance.

You might want to have a look at this list of kerberos error codes:

http://www.monitorware.com/Common/en/Se ... ilures.php

Kerberos Error 7 is "Server not found in Kerberos database". This can be caused by an actual invalid name. More causses are in the article above.

Rainer,

Thank you for your response and the link to Monitorware.com. I read through the error code and firstly sync'ed up the time on the DCs. Do I need to also sync up the time on the client desktop with one of our internal servers? I'm very new to this so any basic help is definitely very appreciated. I tried logging on again and still getting the kerberos error code 7. Also, getting error code 20 now. What I have done:

On Server1, created a BAT file to do:
net time \\server1 /setsntp:192.5.41.209 (external source for time)

On Server2 & Server3, created a BAT file to do:
net time \\serverX /setsntp:(ip address of Server1)

Question: do I need to execute a net time setsntp on the desktops now?

Thank you again for your assistance.

Regards,
JZ
