Hi, I found this forum through my search for an answer to a problem in the Event log of my PC.

I am using Windows XP Pro on a 2 PC network. The last week I have been getting a series of error message as follows:
In the Computer Management >tools>system>event log

"The Server's call to a system service failed unexpectedly"

My problem computer is Itel Celeron Processor 601 MHz
240 MB Ram
Using Sis 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter for network on both machines.

Please, suggest a solution for me. I am frustrated over this as everything was going right until this week.
WILL APPRECIATE VERY MUCH IF SOMEONE HELP.
I read somewhere here in the forum about s similar error, burt details are different.

Thanks for your reply. However, the links you kindly gave do not lead me to a resolution. Hope you bear with my ignorance.
I do not have PC-cillin installed before, and I am running WindowsXP Pro. So how do I get the update to fix this annoying error which now runs constantly into page long.

I have the exact same error, to the letter.
I have been trying to find the answer for ages, but to no avail

I am running WinXP Pro with a high speed cable modem and ICS with a machine with Win98.

Have you found the answer to your problem? If so, I would appreciate it if you would share it with me.

I did'nt discover the solution to problem as you'd mentioned. Finally I'd to re install from scratch and default to original registry. What I had before was I had altered some registry HKey following some Geek tweaks from other forum. Learnt the hard way that it is NOT wise to follow blindly.

I was hoping you had figured it out and had some good news. I have tons of programs installed and it would take me two full time days to reinstall everything and fine tune it as I have it now. So, I'll just keep it as is since it does not seem to cause any problems except for the errors in the event log. I too have 'tweaked' my system but with tweaking programs. I will try to revert everything to its original state when the option to do so is in the program.

I think its because cable modem and wireless LAN

This problem occurred on my Windows Server 2003 system. It was related to a windows hotfix (imagine that). It would log the event any time I tried to access (or stream) a file on a network share on that system. The file would either fail during transfer, or in the case of my music, the stream would skip and freeze. I solved the problem by removing all post-SP1 hotfixes. This may not be a great solution for a Windows XP machine, but for a server that does little more than serve some HTML, mail, and files, it will suffice.

The hotfixes I uninstalled were:
KB896428, KB896422, KB896358, KB883939, KB890046, KB898715

Anyone with the time and patience willing to narrow it down to a specific hotfix - it would be appreciated.

very simply, if you are using windows 2003 SP1, remove the SP1
I tried it , and it works,
actually this is not the first problem I faced caused by 2003 sp1, I previously experienced a problem in MOM2005.
