disk defragmenter is gone!

Postby johnny_demonic on Sun Mar 30, 2003 8:26 pm

im running windows xp pro,and i recently downloaded a third party disk defragmenter,"diskeeper",to give it a try.......
however, when i installed it,it apparently assimilated the embedded defrag program, and upon my uninstallation of "diskeeper",it also removed my embedded defrag proggie altogether!!!!......
of course,i wisely had system restore turned off at the time as well,or i would simply restore the system to its previous state......
so,my question and plea to you all out there is this:...can i repair windows without having to reinstall the whole damn thing,or am i screwed?....

Hi,

while I do not have a clue how to fix this, I can at least shade some light on why the defragmenter got assimilated. Actually, the defragmenter that comes with Windows is a stripped-down version of Diskeeper. As such, when the full version is installed, it simply takes things over.

However, I had expected that the stripped-down version reappears when you uninstall the full one :(

I know it doesn't help, but it may at least clarify a little ;)
