DHCP error in NT 4.0

Postby jwhite143 » Fri Jan 30, 2004 2:50 pm

Sorry...i thought i copied the error to this request...the log file has been deleted now but the error said "Jet database error code 1605"

The clients are Win2k and they are not picking up an ip address...i look in the log and it shows that a client with the ip address 192.168.0.whatever (default range when it can't find a dhcp server) ACK but it is not giving out an ip address.

weird part: if i go to command prompt and issue an ipconfig/release and then close out and reboot, the pc gets an ip address...
(this dhcp has been up for years without incident)

thanks for the quick feedback!

When a you try to run Jetpack.exe on the Jet database of a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server on a computer running Windows NT Server version 4.0, you may receive the following error message:

Jetpack failed with error = -1605
When compacting the database using Jetpack, a Jet database duplicate key error -1605 may occur. This error occurs when addresses are marked bad and a unique value is not used for the media access control hardware address associated with the bad IP addresses.

This problem may go away temporarily if you delete the database and reconcile. This problem may also result in the DHCP server ceasing to respond (hanging).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

DHCP error in NT 4.0

Postby jwhite143 » Fri Jan 30, 2004 4:03 pm

Does jetpack.exe work automatically? I have never specifically downloaded or ran this program on my database before...

deleting the database is a temp fix?....this is not possible if i am using this in production without causing big problems...what is the perm fix?

Can i stop the service, copy the backup databse and copy it to the dhcp folder and start the service again? Will this fix the problem?

I need to know how to stop it from hanging and if deleting the database is the only way, how do i create a new database without screwing up all the people who have an ip currently with the old database?

thanks for the quick response!
